I’m going to start this post off by saying I definitely LOVE the original Beauty Blender brand. Their sponges are so soft and blend out foundation and concealer perfectly. I honestly don’t prefer to use brushes for foundation/concealer anymore since I started using them. But let’s be real, they are $20 a sponge- not the most affordable option since they only last a few months. Since Beauty Blender’s have gotten big in the makeup industry, there has been many dupes that have come out. I’ve seen, felt, and used some dupes and they are definitely not the same. Not as soft, or apply product the same as an original Beauty Blender. I had given up on trying to find a cheaper, but as good alternative. That is until I found these sponges pictured below!
So the first one I took a chance and purchased off of Amazon. It is from the brand Aesthetica and it is their beauty sponge. You can purchase it here for $9.99 A lot of the dupes out there range from 99 cents-$6.99 which is pretty inexpensive. I saw this one had great reviews and the price was $9.99 which is half the price of a Beauty Blender, so I decided to take a chance and try it out. Sooo…. I’m. In. Love. Honesty don’t think I will buy another Beauty Blender again. This sponge is best used wet- like the Beauty Blender. You just run it under a faucet, then squeeze out the excess water until it is damp. I always squeeze mine in a towel as well- to make sure there isn’t water still coming out of it. I start by brushing my foundation on with a flat foundation brush, and then I blend it out with the Aesthetica sponge. I do a pouncing motion on my skin until the foundation is blended out. You will notice by using a beauty sponge that your foundation is blended flawlessly with no streaks, and with almost a skin-like finish. It’s amazing!! So if you’ve been looking for a great way to apply your foundation and don’t want to spend $20 on a Beauty Blender, please try this sponge!!
The next one is a sponge that Sephora collection recently came out with, and as sold in a pack of two. They are called the Pointer sponge. And like the name says, they actually have a little space for your pointer finger to go into and it makes the sponge super easy to use! I do like getting these wet as well, and ringing out the excess water to make sure it is damp. I use this sponge to blend out my concealer, as well as apply my under eye setting powder (yes you can apply powders with damp beauty sponges and it works AMAZINGLY.) I start by applying my concealer to the areas where I want to concealer and highlight, and then I take the sponge and use pouncing motions back and forth until the concealer is blended. It seriously blends like a DREAM. I then pick up with the sponge, my all time favorite under-eye setting powder (which can technically be used as a concealer by itself, but I like it on top of my under-eye concealer to really brighten that area) the Bareminerals Well Rested Spf 20 powder, and do the same patting motion back and forth until the powder is set and there are no creases. These sponges make your under eye concealer apply seamlessly, and if you have an issue with your concealer creasing, try these sponges out and the powder! Oh, and best part is that these sponges are $12 for the two.
To clean these, I actually love to use the original Beauty Blender cleansers. I have the solid bar soap kind, and the liquid kind and nothing cleans them better. I actually prefer the liquid cleanser which I’ll link below. I try to clean them after every use, if not every other use. It’s best to clean these often to ensure they last as long as they can, and they don’t hold in bacteria from your skin. You just get the sponge full of the cleanser and just rinse out until the sponge is its original color.
